The tourist era of Novi Vinodolski started in 1878 when the first supports on sandy sea bottom of the port were built in order to provide platforms for bathing. Very soon new bathing areas were built in nearby Lišanj where the first hotel was built. Afterwards, Novi developed into an attractive sanatorium and resort for Austrian, Hungarian and Czech guests. • Being situated in the north Adriatic region and protected from the open sea by the island of Krk, Novi Vinodolski has the most pleasant climate. In this part of the Kvarner coastline, summer heats are moderated by pleasant and soothing winds. Sea dust combines with mountain breeze coming from woody hills of Velika Kapela. • From a historical point of view, Novi Vinodolski is a cultural and political center of what once was Vinodol Princedom. It is a "cradle of legislature" of Vinodol and a traditional wine growing area. Novi Vinodolski events: ATP - Tour of Championships tennis tournament - "Novi Classics" • From the 15th to 18th of June 2005, Novi Resort & Hotels organized the third edition of the popular ATP Tour of Champions tennis tournament - "Novi Classics". Croatia Classics was organized twice in Zagreb, 1998 and 1999, the winner of both tournaments was Mr. John McEnroe. Last year the tournament was held in our resort in Novi Vinodolski. The winner was Mr. Cedric Pioline from France. Novi Vinodolski CarnivalFools carry masks all year round and smart ones only during the carnival. • July 6-7, 2007 • If you join the carnival parade, colourful variety of pirates, cave people, fairies and witches, devils, kings, politicians and other fancy creatures, you will find out, that without them the world would be much more melancholy place to live. And most important is that you will enjoy yourself! The Rose of Vinodol • August 16 - 18, 2007 • A story has been told in Vinodol and Novi Vinodolski about a custom from the past centuries while there was still the noble Frankopan family ruling. According to the story, at the end of vintage, they used to choose a "Rose" among female pickers, i.e. the most beautiful and diligent one. The chosen "rose" would be crowned with a vine and taken to the city accompanied by music of some of old folk instruments leading the parade of pickers. • A modern festivity celebrating the Rose of Vinodol, inspired by the history of Vinodol, was organized for the first time in 2004. They competed, celebrated, sang and danced, enjoyed traditional food and, naturally, drank wine from Pavlomir's vineyards. The organizers promise even better fun this year.
